St Andrews 2000 golf course in Pattaya is one of the most unusual golf courses in Pattaya with two par-6’s.  The architect responsible for this unusual design is English architect Desmond Muirhead and he has made excellent use of the unusual topography of the course to create a links-style course that would not look out of place in Scotland.

This golf course should not be attempted by very high handicappers or beginners as it is a significant challenge even for the better player.  The course is a par 76 playing at over 7700 yards from the back tees and it not only the length which is the problem as you will also encounter elevated tees & greens and on the back nine in particular some huge elevation changes. At least you will be able to tell your golfing buddies that you played a par-6 – both are over 800 yards long!

Both these holes (Nos. 4 and 13) measure 878 and 861 yards, respectively. The 4th is particularly spectacular with a backdrop of rocky cliffs and three water hazards which need to be negotiated to reach the green.  Every hole requires maximum concentration as the penalty for going offline are very severe and you can expect to lose several balls on the way round.

The course has suffered in recent years due to poor maintenance and lack of water and in the dry season the fairways can get burnt out and the greens crusty.

St. Andrews 2000 is under the same management as the Rayong Green Valley and Silky Oak courses and they share the same rather dingy clubhouse which is very much in need of a makeover. However, the locker rooms are Ok and the restaurant serves acceptable Thai food.

Not as good as Green Valley

The course looks artificial and a number of holes are just strange. I liked the par 3 hole where you hit from a promontory over a big lake. The greens were slow and difficult to read. Good caddy 121

Good conditions, good maintenance, nice caddies. Only the restaurant you shouldn’t join: unfriendly, poor quality and expensive

Fun round

Two Par6 holes, where else do you get that? It’s fun to play, not much going on, could go out right away before my scheduled tee time, played in 3h, condition okay, greens slow, fairways burned here and there. Better courses in the area, but way more expensive.

Way past it best.

This is my first time playing St. Andrews. The general condition of the course is very poor. Greens, bunkers, fairway resembles a public course. The disappointing thing is this course has the most potential of any course I played. It has a championship feel about it, being well laid out with many 'signature' holes. With a significant investment this could a great course. There's better places to play in Pattaya.
