St Andrews 2000 golf course in Pattaya is one of the most unusual golf courses in Pattaya with two par-6’s.  The architect responsible for this unusual design is English architect Desmond Muirhead and he has made excellent use of the unusual topography of the course to create a links-style course that would not look out of place in Scotland.

This golf course should not be attempted by very high handicappers or beginners as it is a significant challenge even for the better player.  The course is a par 76 playing at over 7700 yards from the back tees and it not only the length which is the problem as you will also encounter elevated tees & greens and on the back nine in particular some huge elevation changes. At least you will be able to tell your golfing buddies that you played a par-6 – both are over 800 yards long!

Both these holes (Nos. 4 and 13) measure 878 and 861 yards, respectively. The 4th is particularly spectacular with a backdrop of rocky cliffs and three water hazards which need to be negotiated to reach the green.  Every hole requires maximum concentration as the penalty for going offline are very severe and you can expect to lose several balls on the way round.

The course has suffered in recent years due to poor maintenance and lack of water and in the dry season the fairways can get burnt out and the greens crusty.

St. Andrews 2000 is under the same management as the Rayong Green Valley and Silky Oak courses and they share the same rather dingy clubhouse which is very much in need of a makeover. However, the locker rooms are Ok and the restaurant serves acceptable Thai food.

They love their six balls at St Andrews 2000

Reviewed by ; on
The course is quite pretty but very tired and raggy. Long holes from the white or blue tees with lots of water. Very sandy fairways and greens as it’s built next to a sand quarry. Slow greens due to sand on them and raggy cups. We (2 ball) were sandwiched between a five ball behind and a six ball in front. They let us through after 4 holes only to be met by yet another six ball in front so we were waiting at every single hole. Laem Chabang far far nicer for the same money.

Put more sand on bunkers will make the whole course perfect

Reviewed by ; on
Happy about everything except the green-side and fairway bankers are too shallow in sand making sand saving shots very difficult if not impossible. Hope management can improve so I would come back for another round of interesting golf challenge. The shower rooms in the club house may need a bit of cleaning and preferably renovation. The towels are a bit old need replacement.

Greens were sandy

This is a great course with some cracking holes, but the only downside was all the greens were sandy, I understand why but made the lines hard to read. My caddie was great as they all have been during my rounds here, clubhouse as mentioned is a bit dated.

what a wonderful experience

Reviewed by ; on
I played the course with my friend in the afternoon, starting at 2 p.m after we had played about 15 courses in Thailand. Wonderful environment, great nature, lakes, so many colors and flowers, the course hilly, undulating fairways in very good condition, the greens slow but very fair. There are some challenges with hazards, a lot of bunkering, water, conditions changing every hole. On both Par 6 with wide fairways, you can use your 3 wood in a good way. As I was playing in a double, the round was finished too early in 3 hours. There are some works around the clubhouse, we didn't use any facilities, which are criticized by some comments, but definitely had a lot of fun and liked the course more than the "sophisticated" courses like Banyan or Mountain Hills in Hua Hin, where you can see many players well dressed in white long trousers ,etc. For us not necessary for playing a good golf round....
