Mountain Shadow Golf Club
About
Excellent scenic layout in a former mango plantation
Originally designed by Ron Fream back in 1993 but much improved following a 2004 renovation, Mountain Shadow Golf Club is an attractive 18-hole layout set against a backdrop of the surrounding hills and local vegetation. Narrow, undulating fairways, numerous water hazards and no less than four island greens all combine to offer an enjoyable challenge.
Accuracy off the tee is at a premium here, with tight fairways and the risk of getting blocked out by the trees if you stray off line. With plenty of water in play, flat lies at a premium, and some very fast, undulating greens resulting in plenty of three-putts, you'll have to be on form to score well.
The 14th is a memorable par-5 dog-leg that hugs a large lake; the sensible play is a conservative one, but play it too safe and you'll have no chance of reaching the green in regulation. The island greens make for an enjoyable challenge, but make sure you're well stocked with extra balls as it's a fine round that ends with the same ball used on the first tee.
Away from the course, there's much improved clubhouse, a reasonable restaurant and a well-stocked pro shop. The staff are very friendly, and the caddies also good fun and usually quite knowledgeable - you'll certainly need their help when negotiating this challenging course.
Reviews
Pleasant course, decent value for money.
Clubhouse dreadful, no hot water.course looks like it was good at one time but has suffered from lack of upkeep."Nice course - terrible clubhouse"
Very bad first impression as the clubhouse is really in need of some renovation and it does not look as though it has been touched in years. The course, however, is in good shape and is fun to play but it is certainly not easy. The front nine is all about palm trees and water and the inward nine has more elevate changes and woodlands. Excellent value courses even in the peak season and it is rarely crowded. The staff are polite enough and the cadies seem to know the courses pretty well."Good golfing experience"
The narrow landing areas, tree-lined fairways and the water hazards present the main problems on this beautiful rural course. The greens and fairways are in reasonable condition. The courses is not that long but you still need to take care. The courses was pretty empty when we played midweek and we got round quite fast. Caddies were fine and thought it was good value.Course Info
