Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club was extensively renovated and remodelled in 2015 and is now the venue for the prestigious Kings Cup which is a European Tour Event held annually in Pattaya.  It has also hosted several other local and regional golf tournaments.

Originally designed by Dennis Griffiths, Phoenix Gold is a 27-hole layout comprised of three different nines called Ocean, Lake and Mountain.  In 2014 the decision was made to renovate and upgrade the course and the GolfEast team and they made minor modifications to the Mountain & Ocean Courses with improvements to the drainage, tee boxes and some bunkers. The Lakes Course underwent a major re-design with several new holes and some new lakes – the result is that the course is more visually appealing and some of the shorter holes have been made more challenging.

The Ocean Course is a firm favourite with those golfers who play here regularly here as the fairways are lined with mature trees although parts of the course have been opened out to give better views of the hills an mountains to the north and Gulf of Thailand towards the east.  New bunkers have been added and some of the existing ones have been remodelled.  You get the best views of the surrounding area from holes 4,5 & 6 and as you stand on the tee box  at the 9th hole you will get the best views over Gulf of Thailand which is a perfect way to end your round.

The Mountain Course is dominated by the impressive laser-carved image of Buddha carved into the face of a nearby mountain which is best viewed from the fairway of the 6th hole.  This course requires careful shot management and the greens can be quite tricky.

There is a huge clubhouse and a very well-stocked pro shop – the changing rooms have also been upgraded and are extremely spacious and comfortable.

Phoenix Gold Golf Country Club

I found this course to be quite challenging and long, but very enjoyable to play.

I found this course to be quite challenging and long, but very enjoyable to play. The outlook on Khao Chi Chan Buddha makes the course really unique and adds to the enjoyment of playing it. The food was great, and the locker room was clean and tidy, but just not as good as other courses we played during this trip. I will definitely play this course again in the future.

Because they are Improve the course and new greens transform the phoenix to the phoenix gold. That’s making the players having more fun and challenging their skills. The overall of the golf course is very good, the service is very good and the caddies are very politely.

Great course, needs some improvements

It's a lovely course. Some of the greens were not in great shape however. I love how cheap a tray of balls are at the range. The locker room is EXQUISITE. I felt like tour pro in there. Fairways are excellent. Played twice in one week and both my caddies were great at locating my ball off errant shots so very good job on that. My first caddy however needed a bit more training. After I took a shot she would always just walk off to the cart and I had to ask her to take my club and clean it. She finally started doing it without request by about hole six which is about 20-25 swings of not taking my club after my shot. My second caddy was definitely better when it came to that. Always there to take my club after a shot and cleaned it. However, she didn't seem to know the greens very well. On the very first hole I had a 12-15 foot putt and she said it goes left. I always read greens with my feet and it was clearly breaking right. I asked her a second and third time, 'left?' She said yes, I said "no, it's right" she shrugged. I aimed it the way I read it and drained it, looked at her and said "see, it was right." After that she didn't give anymore green reads, lol. I'm always going to trust my own reads because I'm good at it but it's nice to have that confirmation from a caddy, not information that conflicts. But she was a good caddy. Service at the restaurant was just ok. I ordered a papaya salad and told the server about 10 times please no tomatoes. The reason I said so many times is because it seems to be a thing wherever I go that I when I say no tomatoes it still comes with tomatoes. I even told her how that always happens to me, so I jokingly just kept saying no tomatoes and she laughed and looked at me like I was a crazy person. Guess what....yes, it came with tomatoes. When I asked about how she could possibly forget she blamed the kitchen that it was their fault. But she still brought it out to me and there was clearly a pile of tomatoes on it, lol. So I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for them to remake it. And no offer to give a discount for the inconvenience or even an apology. I've worked in the service industry and when you screw up you do something to make up for it. At the very least APOLOGIZE instead of blaming it on someone else. I paid extra to add chicken to the salad and they were such small pieces and only like a handful. Wasn't pleased about that. The pina colada only filled 2/3 of the glass. The restaurant needs better management and better trained staff. The food and drinks are expensive so don't cheap out on filling the glass or giving a decent amount of chicken when I pay for it. ESPECIALLY since the order was screwed up. All that being said, would I play there again? Yes. Because I was staying in Pattaya and it's the closest course I could find to the city. About 30 min away whereas all others are at least an hour or so. It is well maintained (greens need work), a nice challenge with all the bunkers, not too much water and overall just very pretty. Better service at the restaurant is needed.
