Set amidst wooded, rolling terrain dotted with eucalyptus trees and colourful flora just half an hour from downtown Pattaya, the 27-hole Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club came into its own following a 2015 upgrade that started to attract numerous professional events. A tree-lined parkland course of gently contoured fairways, shallow bunkers, and sloping greens, it's now one of the best options for a round of golf near Pattaya.
The course offers some great views of the surrounding mountains and the Gulf of Thailand, and is made up of three 9-hole loops - the Ocean, Lake and Mountain courses - that don't entirely live up to their names.
There's surprisingly little water in play on the Ocean course (just great views of the sea in the distance), although the pretty par-3 7th is a notable exception. Four dog-leg lefts with plentiful bunkering instead present the main challenge.
The Lakes course does a much better job of living up to its name, with 7 of the 9 holes featuring the risk of a wet ball. The standout is probably the par-4 8th, which features a tricky approach with water both sides to a well-guarded green.
The mountain course is the most pictureque, winding as it does between jungle-clad hills and a mountain blessed with a large, carved image of Buddha. The last three holes are especially good, a long par-5 that dog-legs around a lake, a pretty par-3 and a long par-4 with water to the left and sand to the right and short of the green.
The massive clubhouse features a large center reception, a well-stocked pro shop, acceptable locker rooms and an excellent restaurant serving both Thai and European food at reasonable prices.
Overall, a round at Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club has much to recommend it, and it's definitely worth the trip as part of any Pattaya golf holiday.

Great experience from booking to the last shot of the day.
Slow play though sadly, even the second hole had 3 groups waiting before us. But very enjoyable course, caddies and fellow golfers. Very nice layout, need to keep it straight (as everywhere!) and quite a few very damaged greens because of previous torrential rains. But actually the ball rolled quite true.Golden
As my return to Pattaya Phoenix gold is absolutely one of the courses to play lovely facility. Wonderful staff absolutely amazing. Welcome as you pull up. Caddies are absolutely fabulous. All caddies, regular caddies and pretty caddy. Very very good. Restaurant has wonderful selection of Thai, Korean, Asian Chinese and western options. Conditions were lovely greens were running a little slower than I’d like, but it was early in the morning and the dude was still on the greens wonderful caddy thank you very much. I must play in Pattaya. Very good course for the price. Will return very soon. Thank you so much.Terrible round of golf
Greens are in very bad shape. Several greens with a lot of sand on them, and slow. The rough in many areas has not been cut in a long time. The caddie kept giving me wrong clubs and didn’t seem to be awake. Very slow play, even with only 2 and 3 balls in front. As a single golfer, no flights let me play through, and marshall did not do anything to speed up play or tell people to let me through as a faster golfer. Very disappointing experience.Course Info
