Short but water-heavy course just 30 mins from downtown Pattaya
A fairly new course that needs some time to mature, Hermes Golf Club (formerly Parichat International) is nonetheless a welcome addition to the Pattaya golf scene, although high handicappers may not agree given the number of forced water carries. Set on 200 acres of natural rolling terrain, its not the best-maintained course in Pattaya but the attractive cliffs and ravines that frame it at least partially make up for it.
Water is the main theme here, with some big carries required off the tee and some lakes often encroaching into the fairway to leave some unnecessarily narrow routes to the green.
Whether you find this course exciting or infuriating is largely a matter of mindset. There's certainly fun to be had trying to keep your ball dry right from the first hole, a long par-5 with what is essentially an island fairway. After long forced carries over water off the tee at the 3rd and 4th, you'll either be relishing the challenge or be facing a long day.
There's some respite at the start of the back nine, a straight par-4 with no water, but it's brief. The par-3 11th has water all the way along the right, while the 12th is rather unusually a par-6 with a very narrow fairway with water all down the right and a tiny green with water in front and behind.
More long water carries at the 15th and the monster 17th await, and even more water cuts across the 18th fairway to ensure the round ends as it began. Overall, it's probably not a good choice for anything but the more masochistic of high-handicappers, but if you're someone who embraces a challenge, a round at Hermes Golf Club could be just the ticket.
