Emerald Golf Club
About
One of the prettiest and perhaps underrated golf courses in the Pattaya
Hidden away in the forests and mountains close to Rayong, Empire Golf Club (formerly Emerald Golf Club) ought to be more heralded than it is thanks to some wonderful holes designed by two golfing greats, namely Nick Faldo and Desmond Muirhead. Narrow fairways full of bumps and hollows, twinned with cleverly placed bunkers means the relative lack of water does little to temper the challenge at this hugely enjoyable course.
Although the upkeep of the course can be a little inconsistent, there's plenty to compensate. Narrow landing zones and hazards that cut into the fairway mean you'll often be leaving your driver in the bag when planning your route from the tee, as there's not much margin for error. It's best to stay out of the bunkers, as you won't know what you'll face - sometimes they are waterlogged, at other times too dry.
After a pretty easy start the course becomes increasingly difficult and steep so unless you're willing to work up quite the sweat we'd recommend taking an optional golf cart. If you can play to your handicap on this course then you are probably playing pretty well.
Empire Golf Club has not changed much apart from its name since it was built back in 1995, but the slightly dated open-air clubhouse is a comfortable place to get a cold beer and a good meal. The locker room are adequate, but at least the showers are hot. There's also a small pro shop and a driving range. The friendly staff and excellent caddies add to the overall positive experience.
Reviews
Nice layout, very bad rental clubs (30 years old and not full sets). Condition was dry and quite bad. Facilities and service was far below expectations.
The course was not worth to play especially given the sloppy service and very bad rental sets. I got a +30 years old ping set with mixed shafts (graphite and steel) the grips were cracked or just super hard and I had one 5 wood and two drivers. The facilities were very old and the shop almost non existent. The mats on the range was so used that it was hard to find a spot to hit from.Completely satisfied with all aspects.
Not long but challenging layout (Nick Faldo Designed I believe. Front office staff, from bag drop, check-in, locker room etc know what they're doing are are pro-active. Caddies were excellent. Greens in great shape , not too fast. Pace of play was fine. No Complaints. Highly recommend for expats and tourists. Only 35 mins from Pattaya. And GolfSavers price was very reasonable and the vouchers were clearly accepted with no chatter from the starter. Thanks to all!The golf course condition and club house are not good.
The golf course condition and club house are not good, but the golf rate is good for weekend players. The restaurant food is good.Course Info
